Last Thursday night, the cream of South Africa's magazine industry gathered in a circus tent (!) to honour the past year's best achievements in magazine writing, production and design. The annual Magazine Publishers Association of South Africa (MPASA) PICA awards were held at the Zip Zap circus in Cape Town. Guests were treated to music by HHP, comedy by MC Riaad Moosa, and of course, Leopard's Leap wine!
From 472 entries, 29 awards were given out. Customer publisher New Media Publishing and Media24 dominated the awards, with Woolworths Taste winning best custom title, and Sarie winning best editor (consumer) and best consumer publication. Other big winners were Women's Health (best launch), ZigZag (best consumer cover) and Elle (Features writer of the year).
The evening was a celebration of excellence in an industry that has experienced a tough three years, but influences so many people's lives on a daily basis.
