UNDER 30s OPT FOR HOME ENTERTAINMENT OVER PUBS AND CLUBS

A recent global trend that has been noticed here and abroad is under 30’s trading nights in clubs for a quiet dinner party with friends, according to new research.  The appeal of a relaxing night in familiar surroundings coupled with the cost of going out has led to a change in the way we socialise.

Researchers for South African wine producers Leopard’s Leap found that 28% of under-30s would now choose a quiet dinner party with friends instead of a night out in the pubs and clubs.

Another 25% said they would prefer to enjoy a civilised meal with their mates in a restaurant.  Just 19% think a night in the pub is the ideal way to spend a night with their friends.

The stats emerged after landlords in Britain revealed that drinking in pubs is declining at its fastest rate for six decades.  The average amount consumed has fallen eight percent in a year to around 6.7 pints per person – the steepest drop since 1948.

Top five ways to spend an evening according to 19-30 year olds

1.    Dinner party with friends

2.    Go out for a meal

3.    Go to a pub/nightclub

4.    Watch some live music

5.    Go to the cinema
