Feted as SA’s best crime write by international site, Crime Time, this is author Deon Meyer’s second novel featuring former freedom fighter Thobela (Tiny) Mpayipheli.
Set in post-apartheid South Africa, where corruption is endemic and crime is out of control, the lead character is battling to come to terms with the death of his eight-year-old adopted son, who was killed in a violent robbery.
When those responsible escape punishment Thobela turns vigilante and seeks out those who have evaded justice after committing crimes against children. Knowing the identity of the killer does not reduce the suspense of the plot as we follow gifted, drunk Inspector Benny Griessel in his attempts to hunt this populist predator.
