The story goes that British soldiers stationed in France during the First World War wanted to add some kick to the local champagne by adding London gin. This cocktail with kick was then named after the iconic French 75-millimeter M1875 gun. The French75 is also one of the cocktails enjoyed in the movie, Casablanca, so if you are looking for some old-world elegance and charm, try our version of this classic cocktail using the vibrant Culinaria Méthode Cap Classique.
French 75 Recipe
250 ml (1 cup) water
220 g (1 cup) sugar
15 ml fresh lemon juice
15 ml simple syrup
30 ml Inverroche gin
45 ml Leopard’s Leap Culinaria Méthode Cap Classique
For the simple syrup, place the sugar and water into a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, reduce the heat and allow to cook for 10 minutes. Set the syrup aside until needed.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker until well chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a champagne flute.
Top with Leopard’s Leap Culinaria MCC. Stir gently and garnish with a long, thin lemon spiral.
