The correct knife – crucial in the kitchen!

Because food is one of our passions, we do not only like to treat our guests to our delicious Rotisserie lunches, but we like to inspire them to cook at home! Our Cooking Classes and Shop filled with all things culinary will inspire anyone to get into the kitchen and try a new recipe or two. You will find that having the right tools just make cooking so much easier and much more fun!

Ask any chef or passionate home cook about their most essential kitchen aid or tool and they might go on and on about their knives!  Just read this blog on the importance of kitchen knives by Truefoodie.

We stock a lovely selection of knives and should be able to provide you with the correct one regardless of the task at hand.

Paring Knife

A small knife with a blade of 6 – 10 cm, ideal for peeling and paring and trimming.

Tramontina Paring Kife                  R205.00

Utility Knife

Medium in size with a blade of 12 – 16 cm. Used for general kitchen jobs such as cutting cheese, vegetables, fruit and even fish.

Global Utility Knife          R695.00

Chef’s Knife

The most important and versatile of them all. Bigger with a blade of 16 – 20 cm, this knife is used for classic French preparations such as  julienne, brunoise, baton and ciffonade. When buying a Chef’s knife, consider what works for you – a heavier knife such as the Michel Bras Chef’s Knife (R5699.00) or perhaps a lighter weight such as the Global Chef’s Knife (R849.00)

Serrated Knife

Better known as a Bread Knife, this knife is ideal for items that are soft in the middle such as bread, tomato and melons. The toothed blade enables cutting without squashing.

Global Bread Knife          R935.00

Santoku Knife

A very versatile Japanese design ideal for the slicing, dicing, chopping and mincing of vegetables. A great alternative to the Chef’s Knife.

Tramontina Santoku       R695.00

Boning Knife

Sharp with a slender blade, usually 16 – 20 cm. The knife is used to debone meat and the blade could be  stiff or flexible.

Global Boning Knife Flexible        R795.00
