A thing of beauty is a joy forever

"A thing of beauty is a joy forever".
On International Leopard Day, this famous start to John Keats' poem, Endymion is an urgent reminder to protect and conserve these beautiful cats (read more). And because we know that the beauty of wine can also be both a joy and a lyrical inspiration, we've asked the wine poet, sommelier Joseph T Dhafana, to share his thoughts (and words) on our red blend, the 2021 Pardus, a wine named after the leopard's Latin name as well as a majestic male Cape leopard roaming the Wemmershoek mountains in our Franschhoek valley home.

Leopard’s Leap ‘Pardus’ 2021

Leopard's Leap wine estate’s realisation of the importance of wild animals is a true testament of their care for the past, the future and in between they are proud and they found joy in protecting the present. They just crafted a solid and a complete wine called ‘Pardus’ meaning Leopard in Latin. It is a blend of 33% Merlot, 31% Cinsault, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The wine has a clean nose and exudes warm spices, menthol, eucalyptus, herbal and cedar notes with both red and dark berry fruit notes. A delicious light to medium bodied wine with fynbos character on the palate and Indian plums follows through. Very elegant wine with velvet tannins and extraordinary finish. I can safely call it wine for all seasons. (95 Points)
