APRIL IN AMSTERDAM

Do you know the song, Tulips from Amsterdam and yes, April is Spring in Amsterdam and one of the best months to enjoy the spectacle of tulips in bloom! But there are much more to Amsterdam than windmills and flower markets. Amsterdam is a bustling cosmopolitan city, but it still has some small town charm with canals and cyclist adding serenity to the hustle and bustle of city life.

A cultural must-see, Amsterdam is home to the Rijks Museum, Van Gogh Museum and the house of Anne Frank, to name but a few. (Read more) Don't miss out on the charm of Old Amsterdam's "negen straatjes" and the beautiful flower markets! (Click here for some cool things to do in Amsterdam)

We are of course always thinking about food and wine and when you are in the Dutch capital, cheese is always top of mind. Gouda is what it is all about! By far the most popular cheese in the Netherlands, the quality of Dutch Gouda is exceptional, but also try Geitenkaas, Maasdammer, Nagelkaas and Edam if you are lucky enough to visit Amsterdam or if you want to add a touch of Dutch to your cheese plate at home! (Read more)

The Dutch are also well-known for their fabulous fries with mayonnaise that can be bought on street corners, but of course there is so much more to Dutch cuisine. Planning a trip to Amsterdam? Make a reservation at one of these acclaimed fine dining restaurants. More into comfort food? Try a homely Dutch stew like Hachee or Zuurvleis or find inspiration from the variety of Dutch waffles and croquettes! They can be a meal on their own or part of a snacking plate and we have some delicious recipes - with wine pairings!

Try some of Chef Christiaan delicious Dutch recipes - yes, there is a lot of orange carrot inspirations (!) and, here and there, a little South African inspiration – imagine, a biltong croquette… Make sure to pour a glass of the suggested Leopard’s Leap wine to enjoy with them. Don’t miss our special offer for April Award-winning wines – they are great partners with our April recipes! (Click here)
