CAPE TOWN BOOK FAIR TAKES THE LEAP WITH WINE DOWN LOUNGE

From 16 to 19 June, 30 000 expected book lovers will be treated to over 470 literature-focused activities, including the Cape Town Book Fair’s first ever Wine Down Lounge. The Cape Town Book Fair has selected Leopard’s Leap Wines to host the lounge where visitors will be treated to wine tastings of the label’s affordable range of premium South African wines, as well as talks and poetry readings by esteemed food, wine and travel authors.

Vanessa Badroodien, Managing Director of the CTBF, believes that the Wine Down Lounge is a welcome addition to this year’s event. “It’s where one can escape from the hustle and bustle, and relax in a uniquely contemporary environment. One of the highlights of this year’s fair will be a focus on book collections, and this stand is a celebration of books on wine.”

Wine Down Lounge visitors will be invited to indulge in specially selected wine-related literature. Running from 16h00 until close, the daily lounge programme culminates with a wine-tasting hosted by Eugene van Zyl, and the chance to win Leopard’s Leap wine hampers.

Other activities include readings of wine-inspired poetry by Wilma Stockenström, Carina Stander and Hendrik January, a food and wine talk with cookbook authors and journalists, Barbara Joubert and Carmen Niehaus, and a talk by author Johan Bakkes on the travel experiences that form the basis of his books.

Eugene van Zyl, Leopard’s Leap multi-award winning winemaker, enthuses, “Like Romeo and Juliet, wine and literature have been celebrated partners since time eternal. And, just as Roman poet, Horace, said, ‘No poem was ever written by a drinker of water.’ Leopard’s Leap prides itself on its commitment to innovation and celebration, in this case being the first official wine sponsor of the prestigious Cape Town Book Fair, and celebrating two of life’s great indulgences, books and wine.”
