New Culinary Team for Leopard's Leap

Leopard's Leap is delighted to welcome both a new winemaker for the acclaimed brand's portfolio of wines for the global market as well as a new chef for the popular restaurant at its Franschhoek home.

James Ochse started as the new Leopard's Leap Winemaker on 1 March 2026.

Joining the team from his position as Senior Winemaker of KWV Red Wines, James comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience obtained from his Stellenbosch education and work experience at some of South Africa's leading wine cellars in Stellenbosch as well as harvests working in New Zealand's Marlborough region and the Napa Valley in California.

He loves the outdoors, is inspired by the diversity of South African terroir and respects winemaking traditions as well as the charm of this unique heritage. James is excited about the dynamic world of Leopard's Leap Wines and looks forward to his role in reflecting the variety and quality of local vineyards and having people all over the world pour a glass of Leopard's Leap wine when they relax with friends or sit down with family at a table.

Talking about tables.

Chef William Cornelissen recently joined the team to lead the popular Restaurant kitchen and continue the Leopard's Leap legacy of deliciousness on the table.

With more than 25 years of experience both as chef and consultant in kitchens across the Winelands and especially in culinary capital, Franschhoek, William's love for classic French cooking is all about using seasonal ingredients, ensuring everyday quality and attention to detail - something that can be enjoyed with every plate on the delectable new menu that has just been announced.

Expect a selection of light and bright small plates, beautiful burgers, delicious pizzas and of course, the famous Leopard’s Leap braaibroodjie! The popular Rotisserie lunches are all about families and friends getting together and are now exclusive to Saturdays and Sundays while he has given weekday lunches a fresh interpretation - with the new winemaker's wine suggestions! Other than being masters at their individual crafts, this formidable duo is all about ensuring pleased palates and they are working on some exciting food and wine ideas to be announced soon.

The Leopard's Leap team loves the new energy and can't wait to share it with fans of  Leopard's Leap food and wine!
