Take for instance the cocktail named French 75. Call it by its French name Soixante Quinze (Click here for the correct pronunciation) and you might expect your drink to be sophisticated, sultry and even slightly dangerous…
Well, you will be right!
Made from gin, champagne, lemon juice and sugar, the French 75 or Soixante Quinze dates to World War I, and an early form was created in 1915 at the New York Bar in Paris—later Harry’s New York Bar —by barman Harry MacElhone. The combination was said to have such a kick that it felt like being shelled with the powerful French 75mm field gun. Read more

French 75 Wine Cocktail Recipe
- 50 ml Leopard’s Leap Chardonnay
- 25 ml Gin
- 25 ml Sugar Syrup
- 12.5 ml Lemon Juice
Mix all the ingredients together, pour into a beautiful glass (we like it in a champagne glass) and serve with lemon peel.
