TWO GLASSES OF WINE PER WEEK SAFE FOR PREGNANT WOMEN
It is accepted as a common fact that pregnant women cannot have any alcohol. Fears about foetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) has made a glass of wine an absolute no-no during especially the first trimester. The British Department of Health, however, has recently stated that it is acceptable for women to enjoy two units of wine per week while pregnant or trying to conceive. In countries such as South Africa, where up to one in 300 infants will suffer from some form of FAS, it is often recommended by health professionals to abstain totally in order to prevent binge or chronic drinking, but in moderation two units is totally safe.
