Winter Quickies

In Winter we are all about hearty comfort food, but often these delicious recipes come with instructions to simmer, braise, slow cook or roast and imply plenty of kitchen time.

While this might be a joy for lazy weekends or when entertaining guests to steaming pots of winter flavours, regular weeknights do not always afford us the time for that simmering soup and lingering curry. At the same time quick creamy pastas might not be good for post-winter bikini bodies while those ready-to-heat options are usually not pocket-friendly.

What do we cook that can comfort and provide wholesomeness on a weeknight in winter without taking ages or breaking the bank? We asked our friends in food to help. Just follow the link and you will be sorted this winter!

The ever innovative Christine Capendale suggested a Meatball Shakshuka with herbed yoghurt and our fabulous friends at Crush came up with Pork Sausage & Cabbage Casserole with Mustard Cream (Culinaria Chenin Blanc), Cacio e Pepe (Culinaria Pinot Noir), Creamy Tomato Soup with Cheese & Basil Pesto Toasties (De-alc Natura Red) and a Pumpkin & Lentil Coconut Curry (Leopard's Leap Cabernet Sauvignon).

And, what happens when another cup of coffee is just not what you want to thaw those stiff limbs after a cold day at work? Can we take the liberty to recommend a glass of wine for a mid-week evening?

We think so! Even if you only allow yourself a single glass of a mellow Winter white such as the oak-matured Culinaria Chenin Blanc, a generous pour of an easy-sipping or lighter style red such as our Culinaria Pinot Noir or perhaps, if you are really strict about limiting alcohol to weekends, try our Natura De-alcoholised Classic Red for all the comfort and none of the guilt.

Is pouring a glass of wine on weeknights a little too much for your budget? We have even better news! Did you know that the 2023 Leopard's Leap Cabernet Sauvignon was appointed as the best value red wine in the 2024 Ultra Value Red Wine of the Year awards?

Seems we are running out of excuses not to serve healthy, hearty, quick-to-do meals (with a little glass of wine...) for weeknights in Winter!
